Thoughts on the Platinum Preppy EF

A little while ago, I got two Platinum Preppys (in black and blue-black) with extra fine nibs. These are Japanese extra fine nibs, so the line width is about 0.2 mm. It’s more fine than I would like, generally speaking, but I’ve found that they work well on 20 lb copy paper, which is what the daily status sheets at work are printed on, so they’ve found a niche in my pen collection. I have a feeling I’m going to really like using these pens with some brighter inks, but I think for basic writing, I’d prefer a fine nib (non-Japanese).

Hmm… I may have a fancy pen problem.

  1. Careful…this way lies fountain pen madness. The quest for the perfect pen is never-ending. Preppies are great knock-around pens. Another good model for that: Pilot Petit1s — they tuck away but when posted work even in my large-ish hands. And they make good little eyedroppers if you’re into that sort of thing.

    1. I suspect I should stick to inexpensive non-eyedroppers for now. I am really good at making messes, and the cat sometimes wants to know what I’m up to.
